In 2007, I began a writing journey after picking up a flyer at Nashville's Southern Festival of Books. 'Creative writing group' it said across the top, with a contact name and phone number at the bottom. That phone call changed my life.
It began a journey guided by the Amherst Writers & Artists writing method. Although I didn't know what I wanted to say or who I wanted to share it with - and often, I'm still not sure - I knew I wanted to write and I knew I wanted a community of other like-minded creatives.
Because of AWA, I completed my Master of Liberal Arts & Science at Vanderbilt University with a focus on writing and the arts. I have worked in nonprofit development for 10 years where my writing has secured millions of dollars of necessary funds for arts, environment and health-related missions serving the community. I mean, maybe I haven't published a book (yet!) but writing that lands that kind of money for communities...that "counts", in my book anyway!
And now, I'm a trained and certified Amherst Writers & Artists Affiliate. In other words, a workshop leader steeped in training, filled with passion and overflowing with enthusiasm to share this method. It is nothing less than transformational in its ability to build community, foster writing craft, empower individual voices and...well, really, what more do you need?!
This next journey of sharing with others what has been so generously shared with me is where I stand today. It feels like spring!
Forward, only forward...
